  1. 01 · The beginning

From Vrhnika to the concert hall

Barbara first encountered the violin early in her childhood. She began official lessons at the Music School in Vrhnika under Darinka Fabiani. At the age of nine she was already recording for Slovene National Radio and participating in Odskočna deska, a programme for gifted young musicians. She continued at the Music and Ballet School in Ljubljana in the class of prof. Ciril Veronek, and at sixteen passed the audition for the Conservatory of Music in Klagenfurt, Austria, studying for two years with prof. Brian Finlaysn, a student of prof. Ozim.

  2. 02 · Diploma

    Academy of Music, Ljubljana

She graduated with honours from the Academy of Music in Slovenia, under prof. Dejan Bravničar and prof. Vasilij Meljnikov. During her studies she frequently represented the International Academy Prague–Vienna–Budapest, participated in numerous international violin and chamber music summer schools, festivals and competitions, and received several awards. She refined her playing at masterclasses with prof. Igor Ozim, prof. Vaslav Snitil (Semmering), prof. Tomaž Lorenz, prof. Vasily Meljnikov and prof. Christiane Hutcap.

  3. 03 · Performances

From Cankar Hall to international stages

Among her most significant concert appearances are the final performance of the International Violin School with Sarasate’s Gypsy Airs and Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto in G minor, and two solo performances in Gallus Hall with the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, where she performed the virtuosic Sarasate’s Navarra. She appeared in the concert cycle Youth to Youth at Cekin Castle, on the GM stage, and as a soloist with the Vrhnika String Orchestra. She has toured extensively with a piano trio in Slovenia and abroad.

  4. 04 · Awards

    Scholarships, ensembles, film score

At the International Music Festival Violin – Bled she received a special award for her personal interpretation of Mozart’s violin sonatas. She is a scholarship holder of Imago Sloveniae. She served as concertmaster of the student Chamber Orchestra Savitra and contributed to ensembles such as the Slavko Osterc Ensemble and Slovenica Camerata led by prof. Primož Novšak. She performed in the All Capone Štrajh Trio and collaborated with acclaimed percussionist Zlatko Kaučič. She also recorded music for the award-winning film V leru and in 2002 appeared in the documentary Čisto blizu nas, performing Sarasate’s Gypsy Airs.

  5. 05 · Today

    An independent musical path

For eight years she was a regular member of the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra. Two composers — Niccolò Paganini and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart — hold a special place in her heart. In recent years she has fully dedicated herself to an independent musical career, refining her artistic expression on both classical and electric violin.

Neither a lofty degree of intelligence nor imagination nor both together go to the making of genius. Love, love, love — that is the soul of genius.
